Shout out! A project featuring young women’s views on human rights
November 7, 2007
FAFIA, in collaboration with POWER Camp National, is pleased to announce that the five participants have been selected to take part in the first ever Shout Out! media team.
Shout Out! offers these young women the opportunity to participate in two separate training sessions commencing on November 28th: one on media arts (hosted by POWER Camp), the other on women’s human rights (hosted by FAFIA). These young women will also be attending the FAFIA conference in Gatineau as part of their experience.
Shout Out! participants will collectively display their own ideas in five separate multimedia presentations that will debut on February 14th, 2008 as part of a National Day of Action.
More news to come!
*****
Do you care about issues of discrimination and social justice in the lives of women and girls? Are you interested in learning about media arts as a way to have your voice heard? Here’s the chance to share your story and tell the world what you think!
Shout Out! is a project that offers you the opportunity to:
- learn about the United Nations and how it can be used to make a change in the world
- and use media arts skills to share your message and make an impact
What is it?
A chance to participate in two separate training sessions on media arts(hosted by POWER Camp) and women’s human rights (hosted by FAFIA) between November 28th and December 4th. The training sessions will prepare you to create a short video, audio piece or photo montage.
Media arts are a great way to express yourself and be heard! The media arts training will offer hands-on training in video production, audio and photo journalism, and you’ll be supported throughout the production of your project by local media arts mentors, POWER Camp National and FAFIA.
What is the goal?
While a global treaty on women’s human rights was adopted by the United Nations over twenty-five years ago, there’s still a long way to go. Shout out! will help you make the links between the realities of girls and women here in Canada and the United Nations human rights treaties which guarantee equality for women around the globe.
The final pieces – whether videos, photographs or audio – will be featured on kickaction.ca and NFB citizenshift, as well as being part of a national screening and awareness raising campaign.
How to get involved?
Apply! If you’re between 16 and 24, and are chosen to be part of the team, you’ll join a select group of young women from across Canada at training sessions in Montreal and Ottawa where you’ll learn the skills you need to create your project. Travel is covered by the project.
Shout Out! Is a collaboration between FAFIA (the Feminist Alliance for International Action) and PCN-FA (POWER Camp National Filles d’Action).
We welcome any organizations or individuals to send this call-out to any young women who may be interested in joining the team.
