52nd UN Commission on the Status of Women

The UN Commission on the Status of Women will hold its 52nd session on February 25 - March 7, 2008, at UN headquarters in New York. The session will consider the theme: "Financing for gender equality and the empowerment of women." The United Nations Commission on the Status of women will consider the theme: “Financing for gender equality and the empowerment of women” at its 52nd session at United Nations Headquarters in New York from 25 February to 7 March 2008.

Canada’s Statement to the UN Commission on the Status of Women Misleading and Disappointing

On February 28, 2007, Canada delivered its statement to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW), the United Nations body responsible for promoting the equality of women and girls, and monitoring the implementation of international agreements and commitments to women’s equality, including the Beijing Platform for Action. The focus of this year’s UNCSW is the elimination of all forms of violence and discrimination against girls.

In accordance with its multi-year programme of work for 2007-2009, the Commission will consider
“The elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against the girl child”
as its priority theme at the 51st session.
