UNINSTRAW: Promoting Women's Political Participation

The United National International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (UNINSTRAW) is the only United Nations Institute devoted to undertaking and promoting research and training programmes which contribute to the advancement of women and gender equality worldwide.

Currently, UNINSTRAW is focusing its attention on issues of:

  • gender, peace and security;
  • gender training; and
  • the creation of resources including a gender research guide, which seeks to provide researchers with practical information on integrating gender concerns into research projects and programmes;
  • gender, governance and women’s political participation

Along with providing background information about relevant organizations and international agreements which deal with the issues of women and governance, UNINSTRAW has produced a fact sheet entitled Women in Decision-making.
