It has been an eventful couple of years for FAFIA and women’s organizations in Canada generally. There has been significant upheaval, several setbacks as well as a few modest successes. Within this context, we invite you to participate in FAFIA’s National Symposium and General Meeting which will take place in Gatineau, Quebec between November 30 and December 2, 2007.
In collaboration with the Nobel Women’s Initiative, we will be launching the Symposium on the evening of Friday, November 30th. On this evening we will be featuring Professor Jody Williams, Nobel Peace Laureate, who has been recognized for her leadership in the international campaign to ban landmines. Professor Williams will address Canada’s current conduct on the international stage as well as the recent global effort to establish a new UN Women’s Agency. Click here [1] to learn more.
Other topics which will be addressed at FAFIA’s Symposium include:
- preparing for Canada’s upcoming performance review under CEDAW (the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women) through updates and training geared towards provincial and territorial groups;
- an in-depth exploration of gender budgeting and how it can be effectively used in the Canadiancontext;
- exploring how women’s groups in Canada can financially sustain their work;
