KICKACTION.CA Is Looking For Some Reporters

– Fri, 2008 – 07 – 18 16:50

So here’s the deal…kickaction.ca is looking for some reporters.

We want people who are into writing (or shooting photo essays!) about events in their communities, people who inspire them, or everyday events in their lives (with a bit of analysis!) We want adventurers, detectives, journalists & online pirates, and we want you.

What do you get out of it, other than the thrill of seeing your words put up on a website for thousands of people to see? Well, some journalism experience, to start with, which the kickaction coordinators would be happy to attest to via letter of recommendation - and we’d be happy to sign off on some hours spent for your community service requirement if you’re in high school!

What does being a kickaction.ca reporter mean?

For starters, it means writing on the site at least once every two weeks, with each post falling into one of the following (very broad) categories:

  • attending an event in your community - this means letting us know about it in advance so that we can post it on the site, then attending it, and then posting a short (or long) write up of the event, plus pictures, if you take them.
  • writing a profile of someone you find inspiring in your community - bike mechanic, teacher, activist, artist…
  • writing a blog about whatever you want - we want to hear about your fundraiser art show, your benefit concert or dance party, the community forum your parents dragged you to (or you dragged your parents to) last
week, the walk-out you staged at your school, or the day of silence you participated in.

Who are we looking for?

Kickaction is ‘an online community space for girls and young women who think for themselves, take a stand and act creatively to bring positive change to their communities and across the globe.’ That means that if you identify as a girl or young women we’d love to hear from you.

So if you’re into it, send a short letter tell us why you want to be a KA.ca
reporter to kathryn@powercampnational.ca along with a copy of your resume, if you have one, by August 6th.
